Just having another bad hair day? Recovering from another hair disaster? Looking to overhaul your look? Or stuck in a styling rut? Just by making the simplest change to your hair can work wonders and not only improve your hair, but the way you feel.

Here at LIDO, we believe in giving you not only the best range of hair care products, but also the best hair improvement and styling tips and advice. Use quality branded shampoo and conditioners, dry hair shampoo, hair straighteners and other styling products from our range, and read valuable hair tips to get the sleek and stylish hair you've always wanted.

The Right Hair Cut

The first thing you need to improve the look of your hair is to make sure you have some hair basics covered; the first being the right hair cut.

The right cut should work with your lifestyle hair characteristics and face structure. After all, there’s no point in cutting your hair into a straight mid-length bob if your hair is extremely thick and full of curls. The maintenance of trying to keep your hair completely straight to re-create this look would get not only tiresome very quickly, but also damage your hair.

Superior Hair Colour

Nothing says great hair like a great hair colour! If you’re happy with your current hair cut, or you don't want or need to cut your hair to improve your hair, then trying something new with your hair colour is a great option!

You can either change your hair colour dramatically by going blonde, trying out a red hair colour or giving a brunette shade a try. If a total colour change is not what you're after, try enhancing your current hair colour with highlights.

Hair Styling Products

The last hair crucial thing is using the best hair styling and hair care products for your hair and style. This will ensure that any hair issues, such as frizz from curly hair, flat strands due to fine/thin hair, or heavy products that can wreak havoc on oily roots will be a thing of the past.

Buy shampoo and conditioners, hair treatments, dry hair shampoo and hair styling products that will work with and nourish your hair type and keep it the same way you looked when you left your hairdresser. This may mean choosing organic shampoo and conditioners over some in the chemical range.

The same advice goes for your hairstyle too. Using hair care products that will help you achieve a certain style, such as a shampoo designed to help you style your hair straight, or smoothing shine designed to add gloss to your wavy hair, will go a long way to helping you achieve the hairstyle that you want. With those hair basics covered, you can then instantly improve your hair at any time with these easy tips!

Frequent Hair Care Tips

A Trim

If you can't decide on a total hair cut change then just getting a simple hair trim is enough to improve the look and health of your hair and neaten up your existing hair cut.

Hair Mask

Everyone wants shiny, healthy hair but not everyone regularly applies hair masks. Using a hair mask, even once a month, can help to repair damage caused by heat styling, chemicals and sun damage, smooth dry strands to combat frizz, and help you keep your hair colour by nourishing coloured strands. A big tip, never leave your mask/treatment on longer than instructed by the directions on the label, as this can damage your hair even more.

Hair Brush

Anyone who has run their favourite hair brush, that hasn't been cleaned in a while through their hair, knows the frustration that oils, dirt, fluff and left over hair product residue from the dirty bristles can cause. Clean your hair brushes regularly with a little shampoo and warm water and allow the bristles to air dry to keep your brush, and your hair, in tip-top condition.

Hair Shine

A sure-fire way to instantly improve your hair is to pump it full of shine! Get styling with shine enhancing products such as smoothing shine and take care of any frizz so that your hair stands are nice and flat and ready to reflect light.

Master Two Easy Hairstyles

A simple ponytail, an easy updo, braids, plaits, side styling or even a classic half up half down hairstyle can be styled even when 10 minutes is all the styling time you have. This will give your hair a fresh new look in next to no time.

Hair Accessories

Even those with only 2 minutes to spare can add a hair accessory to their hair. Try a hair clip, sparkly headband, decorated hair elastic or coloured ribbons to spice up your look and add some very colourful interest.

Hair Straighteners - Tips for Stylish, Sleek Hair

When it comes to a polished, sleek, and shiny look, perfectly straight hair is the hairstyle to have.

Anyone who has seen a celebrity strutting straight hair on the red carpet, or had their hair straightened after a cut and colour at the salon, knows how great this style can look - and how hard it can be to replicate at home.

But the truth is that salon straight hair is a look that anyone can achieve. All you need to know are some handy hair care rules and tips for using hair straighteners!

Prepare Your Hair

Before you heat up your hair straightener make sure you've got the following:

  • Clean, dry hair. Hair that's been washed the day before is perfect, but if it's been freshly washed then that's fine too. Just make sure to let your hair air dry or rough dry it with a blow-dryer before using your hair straightener.
  • Heat activated hair care products. Hair styling products that are designed to protect your hair when straightening are a must. If you're starting with dry hair then use a thermo spray product. If your hair is wet then try something heavier like straightening balm and then dry into the hair before straightening.

Before straightening, comb your hair to ensure there are no knots and that any hair products have been evenly distributed.

Straightening Your Hair

These hair tips will have your hair straight in no time!

Use a good quality hair straightener made from solid ceramic plates. The results you receive will outweigh the cost and a higher quality product should see you straightening with the same hair iron for years.

Adjust the temperature for your hair type. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that the hotter the straightening iron, the better it'll work. You'll just be doing more damage to your hair.

The key to straight hair is to work in small sections, from the bottom to the top of your head. Tie or pin the majority of your hair up and then divide the left over hair at the nape of your neck into 5 cm sections. Once that section is straight, release some more hair and continue working in sections until all of your hair is straight.

When straightening, first run a comb through the section you’re working on to detangle, and then use the comb to pull and hold your hair taunt as you then run over the section with your hair straightener.

Always keep the hair straightening iron moving and work slowly. This will give you a much smoother result and will help minimize hair damage.

It should only be necessary to go over a section of hair 2 or 3 times. If your hair is not achieving the desired result in that time frame then work on an even smaller section of hair or have your straightener checked as it may not be reaching its optimum temperature.

After Straightening Care

Keep your hairstyle straight with these simple hair tips.

Add a small amount of serum to your strands to stop your hair from going frizzy or fluffy.

As you can see, with the right hair tools, hair styling products and some hair straightening technique know-how, giving yourself a salon straight hairstyle at home is easy!
